Hog Cycle Deck

Everything You Need to Know About Hog Cycle Decks

Hey guys, DeruTaka here with another guide, about my favorite deck archetype! This time, it’s a guide on creating your own Hog Cycle deck. This guide will give a slot method as well as another slot method, along with variants to the deck and how to play them.

Clash Royale Strategies Hog Rider Card

What is Hog Cycle?

Hog Cycle is a deck archetype in which players use Hog as their main win condition. The goal of these decks is to cycle back to your win condition as fast as possible while playing good defense. If played correctly, you should be able to out-cycle your opponent’s defense. These decks can be anywhere from 3.1-1.7, although it is recommended to stay in the higher range of that.

Why is Hog so good in these cycle decks?

This is because of the Hog’s abilities. It is a low cost, high speed, high health troop which only attacks buildings. Because of this, Hog can be used to effectively deal chip damage to towers fast with relative ease.

Best Hog Cycle Decks

DeruTaka was nice enough to include some methods on how to build a proper Hog Cycle Deck as well as some example decks to use.

Deck Slot Method #1

  • Hog Rider
  • High DPS Troop
  • Cycle Card 1
  • Cycle Card 2
  • Primary Spell
  • Cheap Spell
  • Free Slot
  • Building

This is the most popular deck slot method. This method allows for players to have the most freedom when making their deck. Some popular meta decks made from this are;

2.6 Hog Cycle Deck

  • Hog Rider
  • Musketeer
  • Ice Spirit
  • Skeletons
  • Fireball
  • Log
  • Ice Golem
  • Cannon

This deck has been very strong ever since its creation. With each slot being filled, it’s a well-rounded cycle deck. Ice Golem can tank shots while Cannon lures the troop and Musketeer deals damage. Ice Spirit and Skeletons can be used on defense or offense, allowing the user to cycle back to Hog in mere seconds after use.

Hog ExeNado

  • Lightning
  • Hog Rider
  • Executioner
  • Skeletons
  • Ice Spirit
  • Tornado
  • Log
  • Cannon

This is one of the decks I created myself! Executioner Tornado allows you to completely overcome one of the major weaknesses of Hog Cycle decks, LavaLoon. Cannon, as stated before, distracts troops while your Executioner and Skeletons take them out. Log works very well, acting as another counter to Bait decks. Ice Spirit plays a vital role in this deck, being the only way to stop Inferno Towers from destroying your pushes.

Deck Slot Method #2

  • Hog Rider
  • High DPS Troop
  • Cycle Card

  • Free Slot
  • Free Slot
  • Cheap Spell
  • Primary Spell

Hog Freeze

  • Hog Rider
  • Mini PEKKA
  • Goblin Gang
  • Minions
  • Ice Spirit
  • Princess
  • Zap
  • Freeze

This is another strong meta deck. Mini PEKKA takes out most tanks with relative ease, while Goblin Gang, Minions, and Princess play a “bait” core, to deal high damage on both defense and offense. Zap allows for instant take out of Fire Spirits, Skeletons, Spear Goblins, and pairs with Princess to take out Minions, Goblins, Archers, DG, Princess, and also cripples Barbarians.

Freeze is a pocket card, being very useful on defense, buying you time to rip through their push, while on offense, it allows you to deal MASSIVE damage to towers by buying you 5 seconds of DPS. Overall, a solid deck.

DeruTaka’s Deck

  • Hog Rider
  • Mini PEKKA
  • Minions
  • Ice Spirit
  • Cannon
  • Zap
  • Poison
  • Princess

DeruTaka’s record with this deck is 4700, with 11/9/5/2(except zap level 12) card levels.

Playthrough of Hog Cycle

  • 3:00-2:00
In this time frame, you should play defensive. Play cheap cards in the back and try to respond, not instigate. Even a small slip-up can cost you the game. Cards like Princess and Skeletons shine in this time frame. Hogs can be used, but aggressive Hogs that leave you with no elixir are a no-no.
  • 1:59-1:00
This timeframe is where you start to play more aggressively. You should know what your opponent’s deck is, what they play like, and how they react to your Hog. You can throw out more Hog Riders, but pair them with a good card to counter their counters(like using Princess to counter their Minion Horde).
  • 0:59-Overtime
This is your domain. You should be able to play very aggressively most of the time, and still, have enough elixir for defense.

Matchups

Everything You Need to Know About Hog Cycle Decks

In this section, DeruTaka covers the best way to defend and push to victory against some of the most common matchups you will face in the arena.

LavaLoon

These are very difficult matchups. Inferno Tower, Musketeer, Princess, all are key. If your deck doesn’t have enough air defense, then they can easily plow through. If you don’t have much air defense, your best bet is to push the other lane.

Royal Giant

Royal Giant isn’t that bad. All you need is your High DPS Troop and maybe a cycling card and you should be able to stop your opponents pretty easily. They also let you set up counter-pushes, so take advantage of your opponent’s RG.

Giant

Giants are pretty easy. A building can easily take out half of their health, and a High DPS troop will plow through them. Your primary spell should be enough to take out the support, so don’t worry.

Golem

Golem can be difficult. Running a variant with no buildings makes it near impossible to survive. You must be constantly aggressive, and take out their pumps if you can. Rocket and Lightning are good options against them since it takes out the Baby Dragon, MM, and E-Wiz.

Hog

If you are fighting another Hog Cycle deck, it usually comes down to one thing. Whoever has the elixir advantage, makes fewer mistakes, and has a lower cost deck usually wins. Using a deck that costs 3.1 against a 2.6 will be a very difficult matchup for you.

Control

Control decks are a decent matchup. Play smart, and out cycle their defense.

Siege

This is simple. They focus on buildings which really dent your playstyle. Out cycling their building is the only way you can win.
